  EBAC

The European Board for Accreditation in Cardiology (EBAC) accredits international Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities in cardiology in Europe.

EBAC is a joint initiative of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the Cardiology Section of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS-CS). These two parent organisations bring to EBAC their scientific competence and political legitimacy.

EBAC consists of delegates representing the UEMS-Cardiology Section and delegates representing the ESC.

An EBAC co-ordinator is responsible for the operational aspects at EBAC offices. EBAC headquarters are located in France.

  EBAC legitimacy

EBAC members are representatives of two important international organisations, the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC).

The UEMS consists of medical specialists delegated by all European countries to serve an advisory role concerning health matters for he European Union institutions and for the European Commission.
The ESC, with its 32.000 member cardiologists, is the first scientific European institution in cardiology.

EBAC accredits CME programmes independently, and no organization or institution influences its decisions in any way.
EBAC operates within the European Accreditation Council for CME (EACCME) clearing house system, established in year 2000 by the UEMS. One of the roles of the EACCME is to harmonise CME systems in Europe.
